Room Costs

Everyone entering an aged care home should have their means assessed prior to admission to see if they are eligible for Australian Government assistance with their care fees and accommodation costs.  Depending on the outcome of your means assessment, you may be required to pay the following fees:

Pre November 1, 2025

Basic Daily Fee
Everyone pays this fee. The maximum fee is set at 85% of the single basic age pension. This fee increases twice a year in line with the age pension (March and September).

Means-Tested Care Fee
Depending on your means assessment, you may be required to a means-tested care fee. This fee is different for everyone. The amount you pay depends on your income and assets and your cost of care. Annual and lifetime caps apply for this fee. More information available at myagedcare.gov.au.

Accommodation Costs
The Refundable Accommodation Deposit (RAD) is 100% refundable upon departure from Melaleuca. There are three payment methods: a Refundable Accommodation Deposit (RAD), a Daily Accommodation Payment (DAP) or a combination of both. A combination payment is any percentage of both a partial RAD and partial DAP.

The below table advises the accommodation payment for a room at Melaleuca Home as at 1 April 2025. It provides the RAD, the DAP equivalent of this value and an example of a RAD/DAP combination.

Accommodation Payment

  • Maximum RAD: $540,000
  • Maximum DAP: $120.87
  • Example: Combination 50% RAD and 50% DAP: $270,000 (RAD) + $60.44 (DAP)

If you are required to pay an accommodation payment we recommend that you engage the services of a financial advisor to support your financial decision making as you move into residential care.
